The FBI has released a Seeking Information poster with surveillance images of the Brown University shooting suspect and is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to their arrest. The manhunt intensified after a previously detained person of interest was cleared and released.
The shooting occurred on Saturday, December 13, at the Barus & Holley engineering building during finals weekend, resulting in the deaths of two students, Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov and Ella Cook, and the wounding of nine others.
Suspect Information and Investigation Details:
- Images: The poster and new video footage show a hooded figure in dark clothing and a face covering, walking calmly away from the scene. The person’s face is not visible in the footage.
- Manhunt: Law enforcement agencies, including the Providence Police Department, the Rhode Island State Police, and the FBI, are engaged in a renewed, extensive search. Officers are going door-to-door, canvassing the area for additional surveillance footage.
- Person of Interest Released: An initial person of interest, a 24-year-old man from Wisconsin, was detained but subsequently released after ballistics evidence did not match the firearms found with him to those used in the shooting. Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha confirmed there was no basis to continue holding the individual.
- Public Appeal: The FBI has established an online portal for the public to submit tips, photos, and videos related to the incident.
- Reward: The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the gunman.
Authorities emphasize that the investigation is ongoing and encourage anyone with information to contact law enforcement immediately via their local police department or the FBI tip line.
